Every now and then, there’s a little hidden gem of a game that may be short, yet is considerably amazing for what it is and stays with you for longer than expected after playing. And not everyone is talking about it. I’d say Blanc is one of those gems.

It’s a short, cozy, hand-drawn adventure where you and a partner step into the paws (and hooves) of a little wolf cub and a fawn who have both found themselves separated from their families.

The two of you have to work together to find your way through a snowy wilderness, following the tracks left behind by your families and solving simple puzzles that help you navigate the world around you.

I feel like that’s interesting enough for a game premise, but I got your back if you need a little bit of a push.

First of all, one of the most breath-taking parts of this game is the style.

Blanc looks like a moving storybook and you both get to be the main characters, making each page turn. Its black-and-white art style of a snowy wonderland is simple but manages to capture so much warmth (I know, weird, considering how cold the world is – but trust me) and emotion. It feels like every frame could be hung on a wall or be the literal lockscreen on a phone.

Or a phone case… you’re welcome, Blanc devs, this brain is full of good ideas.

Add in the way the snow crunches under your paws, how the wind howls and makes your characters walk slower to brace against the chill, and the quiet beauty of the world around you, and you’ve got a game that’s more about feeling than flashy graphics.

Feel, you will. And feel – I definitely did. I thought about this game for DAYS after my partner and I played it, but in a good way. I wouldn’t be opposed to a replay down the line!

And the soundtrack? Gentle piano and calming melodies guide you through the story, making every moment feel meaningful. There’s exciting, exploratory and youthful music that plays as you race each other and slide down a snowy hill.. And of course, ominous, chilling music for when things feel a little too real.

The back and forth between the two constantly keeps you on your toes because one moment is pure joy and fun, and the next feels a bit…. Worrisome, but I won’t spoil anything!

If games had a “cozy” badge, Blanc would be wearing it proudly because it is a game that FULLY immerses you in emotions and keeps you locked in for the few hours of playtime it has (I believe it took us 2-3 hours to play fully). It’s perfect for a game night with blankets, some warm tea and dim lights.

And this isn’t one of those games where “co-op” means two people doing their own thing side by side. In Blanc, you literally can’t succeed without each other.

The fawn can jump higher, the wolf cub can squeeze through tight spaces, and you’ll need to combine those abilities constantly in order to make it to your next destination.

It’s not about being fast or the best, but when you’re racing down a snowy hill… it might be then. But only then!

Clocking in at just a couple of hours, Blanc is the perfect game for a cozy evening together. You’ll laugh, you’ll “aww,” and maybe even tear up a little (no spoilers, but trust me – if you cry at even the happiest moments… this is for you). It’s proof that a game doesn’t have to be long or complicated to stick with you. And at a budget-friendly price, it’s a low-commitment adventure with high emotional payoff that you’ll be glad you experienced together.

And if you’re playing locally, enjoy a couch co-op experience with just one copy (we love that for our couch co-op gamers)!

Blanc is the definition of a “quality time” game. It’s simple but heartfelt, and beautiful in a way that’s rare in gaming. Whether you’re playing with a partner, a sibling, or a best friend, it’s the kind of experience you’ll talk about long after the credits roll.

So if you’re hunting for the perfect cozy puzzle game for two, Blanc might just be your next favorite storybook adventure.
