There’s something special about zombie games. It’s almost for the lovers of horror who aren’t too fond of the helplessness and stealthy elements that a lot of horror games implement into their games. I’ve always had a fondness for zombie centered games as someone who’s first ever multiplayer/co-op experience was a zombie game.

So I got a list of games you can play with your partner or a friend for a lot of zombie-killing fun!

Dead island 2:

zombie game dead island 2 co-op fun

This game not only has a campaign you can play with a friend, but there’s after story content you can immerse yourselves into! You and your friend can roam freely as you go on a zombie murdering spree, finishing quests and upgrading fun weapons to use on any unsuspecting undead.

Another fun feature of this game is that every character has their own set of skills, strengths and weaknesses. Plus there are cards you can equip which have different abilities such as ground pounding, where you stun all surrounding zombies and send them tumbling to the ground! So there’s plenty of replayability if that’s the type of gamer you and your friends are.

This game is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC (Windows)

Left 4 dead:

left 4 dead co op multiplayer zombie shooter

Left 4 Dead has a special place in my heart because this is the first zombie game I ever played, and the exact reason I got into not only the genre , but multiplayer/co-op experience in general. A friend and I back in middle school would set up sleepovers especially geared around playing this game online. And don’t worry, we talked to strangers online sure, but we had fake names that we called each other for extra protective measures! Stranger danger!

Unlike dead island 2, this game is a lot more linear and it takes itself probably a little more seriously to boot, but that doesn’t make it any less fun.

This game launched on xbox, but is able to play on PC via steam. You can plug in your controllers if you’re a console gamer and you are able to mod this game on PC for extra fun and replayability! Teletubbies zombies? Boss zombie is Patrick the starfish? Let’s do it.

Resident Evil:

resident evil 5 co-op zombie shooter action game

You’ve likely already heard of this very popular horror survival series and the best part is that there are multiple games in this series that allow for a fun co-op experience. Resident Evil 5, 6 and Revelations 2. I know, I dropped like 3 different titles on you, but let me break down their quirks for you!

If you’re a fan of the original Resident Evil experience (aka ammo management and more of a true survival feel), Resident Evil 5 and RE: Revelations 2 will be more up your alley, as ammo is harder to come by and… you don’t run very fast, making every step you take really count. There’s a lot more strategy and pacing in these installments, and if you ever played the older Resident Evil titles and enjoyed them, these are essentially the same thing, but you can co-op it.

If you’re more of a shoot em up, fast-paced zombie killer, resident evil 6 will likely be more enticing as you can run and literally launch yourself at zombies. Even better, you’re in a constant state of dropping pro-wrestling moves on zombies and smashing their brains open in the process. This Resident Evil game takes itself a whole lot less seriously, and if you’re itching for a fun zombie-killing time, look no further than here!

This is not to say you should play only the ones that fit your play style, I’m just giving you the details. I absolutely recommend you give all of these installments a go, especially if you’re an avid zombie shooter like me and you just want to go co-op on the undead.

Couples especially, don’t sit out on these games.

These games are available on: Playstation 4, Xbox One, PC/Steam, Nintendo

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

call of duty zombie shooter multiplayer co-op

I was the girlfriend that got dragged into playing COD zombies with minimal experience, and even despite that, I can say… not bad. If you’d enjoy getting right into the chaos, running around frantically with your friends or partner, this will be right up your alley.

Survive as long as you can, rack up points, unlock new areas, and get your hands on better weapons before things get really wild. It’s fast-paced, chaotic, and honestly pretty hilarious when one of you is yelling “Revive me!” while the other is sprinting around in circles with one bullet, no ammo and a horde chasing them. Trust me, it happens.

The maps are super creative. Some have sci-fi vibes, others are just weird and spooky, and some are even kind of funny. And if you’re playing on PC, the modding community takes things to another level with custom maps and zombies like Pokémon, Spongebob, or even Mario.

There’s no long story or complicated mechanics, just grab a controller, hop in, and start blasting! Perfect for couples or friends who want something easy to jump into, full of action, no long commitments and guaranteed to cause both panic and laughter.

I personally love commitments and story in games, espeically my zombie horrors, but this one is probably the most disconnected on this list and if you just want action and no drama, consider this zombie mode of COD.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is available on Playstation 5, Xbox Series and PC and Steam!

State of Decay:

state of decay zombie survival co-op game

If you and your partner or friends want to feel like the main characters in a post-apocalyptic movie, State of Decay 2 is a must-try. If you’re more into being a slow-burn survivor vs a run and gun main character, this one gives you that mundane feel of surviving day by day, managing supplies, and building a little community together in the middle of the undead mess.

It’s like The Sims (I have no better comparison to think of haha) meets The Walking Dead, but way more intense.

There’s a lot of freedom here. You can upgrade your home base, pick what missions to do, and even decide who leads your group. And don’t worry, you’re not stuck in one place (cause that would be boring, duh) there are multiple maps you can choose from, each with its own vibes. Want to be the quiet farm town couple or the “barricaded-in-a-spooky-church” couple? Or even better, be the quiet farm town couple, but your mid safe house IS the spooky church! My point is, you have plenty of options which is great for replayability.

Since this game focuses on the nitty gritty of zombie apocalypse survival like scavenging for food, medicine and taking out hordes so they don’t spread and multiply, the co-op makes this game special. It feels like a real shared experience, especially when you’re both whisper-screaming because someone accidentally triggered a horde by accident at 3 a.m. Fun times!

Oh and, if a survivor dies, they stay dead. Which can be seen as a terrible mechanic to some due to never wanting to lose your own characters, but if you ENJOY when your choices actually matter or have consequences…THIS is the zombie game for y’all.

And honestly, even if that isn’t your cup of tea but you really love zombie games, state of dsecay is a must try anyway. It is available on Xbox and PC, also included with Game Pass!

And hey… sometimes zombie and survival genres can go hand in hand. If you want some SURVIVAL based games, minus the flesh eating zombies, check out this blog post on a couple of our favorite survival games!
