There’s nothing quite like curling up on the couch, handing your partner (or your family member!) a controller, and diving into some pure co-op chaos on the Nintendo Switch. Whether you’re in the mood for silly puzzles, adorable adventures, or a bit of button-smashing fun, these games will keep you laughing, yelling, and maybe plotting a little playful sabotage because chaos is always the best in co-op gaming.
Here are some of our favorite couch co-op games for a night in on the Nintendo Switch!
Pico Park:
If you’ve ever wanted to test the strength of your relationship or friendship, Pico Park has entered the chat. It looks cute and simple with its pixel aesthetic, but don’t be fooled, this puzzle platformer is here to humble you and test how much your buttons can be pushed.
It has definitely humbled me and my partner a few times already, especially in its sequel Pico Park 2 (yes, it has a sequel which is just as fun if not better).
A deceptively cute puzzle platformer where teamwork is everything. Solve clever challenges with friends by stacking, pushing, and shouting at each other to line up perfectly or do seemingly easy tasks within a time limit.
Simple in design, but hilariously chaotic in practice, Pico Park is perfect for a fun night of gaming. Every level requires teamwork, timing, and way too much communication. Expect laughter, groans, and the occasional dragging someone into the pit with you via rope because your timing was off.
Super Mario 3D World:
Mario has been carrying couch co-op since forever, and Super Mario 3D World is one of the best in our humble opinion. It feels like an adventure, packed with fun power-ups and the perfect mix of chaos and collaboration. You’ll work together to grab stars… or pick up and launch each other off the map and steal a star (just because you want the points). Either way you play, it’s a blast.
You have quite the crew of Mario characters to play in this one (don’t worry, you’re not just stuck with the two super bros), including Rosalina who you can unlock and play as well! Every level feels like an adventure together as you find and unlock secrets, play minigames, take down enemies together and humble the occasional small boss before getting to the big boss bowser himself.
There’s a bit of replayability in this game, including a secret extra level afterwards so there’s plenty of hours to put into this game. Play with up to 4 people and decide if it’s a race to the finish with no teamwork or an adventure to be had together. Either way you play, this game is a MUST for co-op on the Nintendo Switch.
Kirby: Return to dream land
We can’t talk about Nintendo Switch games without talking about the cute pink hero himself!
Kirby’s Return to Dream Land is one of those classic co-op experiences that still holds up. It is a 2.5D platformer where you run, jump, and float through colorful levels while Kirby (of course!) copies enemy abilities like fire, sword, or beams to fight and solve challenges. Up to four players can jump in at any time, each playing as characters like Meta Knight or King Dedede!
This is one of those chill games that you can play with family members like a child or a younger sibling. It’s cute, charming and easy to learn. It leans more toward cozy game night energy than intense competition, but there is still plenty of chaos when things get hectic.
If you and your partner want something that feels fun yet low-pressure, this is definitely worth adding to the co-op bucket list. It’s simple enough for casual players but still fun enough to keep you coming back, especially if you enjoy lighthearted platformers. It is not the most challenging game out there, but it nails what it is trying to do, which is giving you a fun shared experience where gaming together actually feels like the main focus.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land
Now there’s also another Kirby game that I cannot keep off this list, and if you haven’t played it yet, I highly recommend Kirby and the Forgotten Land!
This is Kirby’s first fully 3D adventure, where you explore open-style levels, rescue Waddle Dees, and use a mix of classic copy abilities along with new ones like Drill and Ranger. And as Kirby, enjoy a new mechanic where Kirby can interact and swallow huge objects like cars or vending machines, which adds some creative gameplay moments. But… let’s not forget about your player two, who will play as Bandana Waddle Dee. Player two won’t have all the Kirby powers, but he does get a spear to spam stab his enemies and float with, and hey, he’s just as cute as Kirby if not cuter!
This game leans heavily into cozy game night energy. Together you are exploring, fighting enemies and bosses, and overcoming obstacles with a bit of teamwork, but it never feels overwhelming. The only time you’re likely to struggle is when learning a boss, but even that will only take a fight or two.
That said, the co-op is a bit more “support style” compared to some other games. Player two helps out a lot, but Kirby still takes the lead, so it is not fully equal teamwork the whole time (but since this is a local couch co-op list, that can easily be fixed with an occasional controller swap!)
The game also has great replayability, so play it twice and swap characters! My partner and I did that so that we both had a chance to play Kirby, all while replaying a game we thoroughly enjoyed and still look back on fondly.
Overall, this is one of those games that is simply better together, especially if you are looking for something relaxed and visually fun. It is not the most challenging co-op experience out there, but it is great for unwinding and enjoying time together. It’s a perfect little co-op adventure game that is sure to bring on a lot of laughter, especially if you’re a returning kirby fan like us!
Snipperclips
Snipperclips is a puzzle game where you and your partner control two paper characters that can literally cut pieces out of each other to change shapes and solve puzzles. You might need to turn one person into a hook, a triangle, or something completely weird (and definitely not a real shape) just to complete a task like popping a balloon or getting balls into a basket.
The whole game is designed around this mechanic, and it supports up to four players with extra modes if you have more than one bestie available to join in on the chaos!
And if your thing is teamwork, you’ll really love this game because there’s no solo carrying here. You actually have to talk things through, plan your cuts, and sometimes redo everything when it goes wrong. It creates a mix of smart problem-solving with a bit of pure silliness that makes for a chill game!
It is especially great for a cozy game night because it is simple to pick up, even if one of you is not a big gamer. A lot of players even say it is a great game for couples because it is easy to understand but still fun to figure out together.
While Snipperclips is not super long, some puzzles can actually be brain scratchers so unless you’re fully dedicated, this game can last you a few play sessions. If you and your partner enjoy solving problems together and do not mind a little trial and error, this is definitely worth trying with a partner or a co-op bestie!
Untitled Goose Game
Untitled Goose (geese) Game lets you and a partner take on the roles of two mischievous geese whose only mission is to ruin the lives of innocent villagers. Sneak, honk, steal and annoy the heck out of all humans in your vicinity in this wacky, absolute gem of a co-op game.
There’s no stress and no “game overs” here, just the pure joy of being terrible geese, side by side and laughing at the misfortune you both cause others while marking off your bucket list.
This game is a must play for ANY co-op gamers, whether its you and your child, you and your bestie or you and your SO; this game is fun for everyone! The controls are easy to learn and you’re given a list of chaotic tasks to complete that every human in each area you enter will hate you for doing.
If you haven’t played it already, what are you waiting for?!
Speed Runners
If you are looking for a co-op game that leans more into fast-paced competition, SpeedRunners is a wild ride (literally). It is a side-scrolling platformer where you race against other players through obstacle-filled maps while using grappling hooks, boosts, and power-ups to stay ahead. It gives a bit of Mario Kart vibes, expect you’re 2D super humans running on foot who do NOT want to fall behind.
The screen locks onto the leading player, so if you mess up and drop too far back, you are out. It is easy to pick up and has the tiniest, slightest learning curve, BUT once things speed up, it turns into a chaotic race where every jump and move matters.
We talked about a lot of games here where you work together, but this game is less about teamwork and more about friendly competition with a lot of co-op chaos energy. Friendship is NOT magic here! You are trying to outplay each other while dodging traps and using items at just the right time.
That said, it still creates a ton of fun moments, especially when both of you are learning the maps and constantly messing up in the funniest ways. It is one of those games where you will be laughing one second and immediately trying to get revenge the next.
This is one of those games that shines during chaotic friend group nights or when you want to mix things up from traditional teamwork games. It might not be the best pick if you are looking for something calm or cooperative, but if you and your partner enjoy a little competition (and have another friend or two who love a good race), this is definitely worth trying.
Just be ready, because things can get intense fast, and the chaos here comes from trying to beat each other rather than work together.
Unravel 2
If you are looking for a cozy co-op game that is truly built around playing together, Unravel Two is one of the best examples of that. It is a puzzle platformer where you control two small yarn characters called Yarnys, who are literally connected by a thread.
You explore beautiful environments, swing across gaps, and solve puzzles by using that connection to climb, pull objects, and support each other. The game can be played solo, but it is clearly designed for two players working together, with local co-op and drop-in gameplay that makes it easy to jump in and start playing.
This game is all about COZY teamwork moments and communication. You have to stay connected, plan your moves, and help each other through every puzzle. That connection mechanic is what makes everything feel so different, because you are constantly relying on each other to move forward.
It creates a really satisfying rhythm where things either click perfectly or you both fail and fall into a river (together! How cute!) But don’t worry, Unravel is also very forgiving, so even if one of you is not super experienced, you can still enjoy the experience together without it feeling stressful.
Overall, this is one of those games that honestly feels like it was made for couples. It is calm, creative, and full of those small, cozy wins where you figure something out as a team. If you and your partner enjoy solving problems together and want something that feels meaningful without being overwhelming, this is definitely worth trying with your significant other, a close friend or even a family member.
It is a hidden gem for multiplayer fans that really shows how powerful co-op gaming can be when it is done right. Did I also mention how cozy it is?
Overcooked
If you are looking for a co-op game that instantly turns into co-op chaos, Overcooked! 2 is exactly that. It is a fast-paced cooking game where you and your partner work together to prepare meals, serve customers, and keep the kitchen running before time runs out or you fail too many orders.
The game throws you into wild kitchens with moving floors, split layouts, portals, and all kinds of obstacles that make even basic tasks feel chaotic. You will be chopping, cooking, plating, and washing dishes all at the same time, and everything depends on how well you work together.
Communication is everything in this one, and things can fall apart fast if you are not on the same page. One of you might be cooking while the other is running ingredients across the kitchen, and if either person slips up, it can catch back up to you quick.
That is where the fun comes in though! It creates those moments where you are either perfectly in sync or laughing because everything went wrong. It is also one of those games where you will definitely hear things like “why did you throw that” or “I thought you were washing plates,” which just adds to the experience.
If you enjoy a little chaos with your game nights, don’t sleep on this title. It is perfect for couples and friend groups who do not mind a bit of pressure and want something that keeps everyone engaged.
This game will test your teamwork, create memorable moments, and turn a seemingly chill night into something fun and unpredictable. Just be ready, because this is full co-op chaos from start to finish.
Moving out
Think Overcooked, but with furniture, a lot of window-breaking (or not if that’s a mission!) and a lot of farting. Yeah, I said farting… I won’t explain any further, you can find out for yourself. You and your friends play as movers tasked with hauling couches, fridges, and more out of awkwardly designed houses. Silly physics and slapstick comedy guaranteed, oh and its all timed.
If you are looking for a game that turns everyday tasks into full-on co-op chaos, Moving Out 2 is exactly that. It is a physics-based co-op game where you and your partner work together to move furniture out of houses and into a truck before time runs out.
Sounds simple, but the game throws you into wild situations with moving platforms, portals, weird layouts, and objects that never quite behave the way you expect. You can play with up to four players, both locally or online, and the levels get more creative and chaotic as you go, especially with over 50 different stages and challenges.
This game is all about teamwork, but you’ll never not feel like things are hectic. You will need to communicate, plan, and sometimes just wing it when things go wrong. Carrying big items together actually requires coordination, and if one of you messes up, it can throw everything off in the funniest way.
It is one of those games where you are either perfectly in sync or laughing because yall just can’t throw the couch out this one window, and time is running out. The physics can feel a little unpredictable at times, but honestly that is part of what makes the game so fun and chaotic.
If you enjoy fast-paced, slightly ridiculous gameplay, you need to try moving out! It is perfect for a cozy game night if you do not mind a little pressure and a lot of chaos. If you and your partner liked games like Overcooked or just want something that keeps you both engaged the whole time, this is definitely worth trying with a partner.
Just be ready, because things can go from organized teamwork to full co-op chaos in seconds.
Nikoderiko
If you are looking for a co-op platformer that feels like a throwback to classic games, Nikoderiko is one of those colorful, easy-to-jump-into adventures. Think Crash bandicoot, but with a player two to share the experience with!
It is a side-scrolling platformer where you play as Niko and Luna, exploring bright worlds, collecting treasures, and taking on big boss fights. The game mixes classic 2D platforming with occasional 3D sections, plus fun extras like riding animal mounts that each have their own abilities.
This is one of those games that leans into cozy game night energy with a bit of co-op chaos mixed in. You are running, jumping, doing mini games and lightly puzzling together, which creates a lot of natural teamwork moments without making things feel too stressful. It is also very accessible, so even if one of you is not super experienced with platformers, you can still have fun.
That said, the gameplay is more “classic platformer” than deeply strategic co-op, so the teamwork is there, but it is not as tightly designed around communication like a true puzzle game would. That is why we gave it a cozy title as well.
Overall, this is one of those games that is great for any co-op gamers who want an easy, light hearted platformer to play (that may or may not remind us of a certain bandicoot).
Its easy to pick up, visually fun, and full of those small teamwork wins. This is definitely worth trying with a partner, especially if you were once a child that dreamed of Crash bandicoot being a two player game (this is probably the closest we have gotten of it so far!)
