Chill? Cozy? Those types of games are fun and all, but what about chaos? What about games that wreck so much havoc that you and player two (or your entire group) are quiet literally raging, screaming and laughing all at once?
If you’re looking for THAT type of game, you have come to the right place. These are certified games that Frankie and I have rage-quited before (in the best kind of way, I swear!) In this list, we’re introducing you to some co-op games with that kind of energy so you can set up your next co-op experience with a little bit of unhinged, chaotic fun!
Chained Together
Take a breath, this first one is a doozy. Inspired by the only-up game mechanics, you and up to 3 other friends play as people in a seemingly purgatory-like world where the only option is going up. You’ll climb, jump and dodge your way over and past various obstacles, each more annoying than the last. And the best part? You get to be chained together! Roll the credits, I said the title name!
While this game is absolutely a fun time, you’ll likely also have your moments of pure raging, especially if you have a friend that just can’t time very well. That’s all it takes to send the entire team plummeting to the bottom of the level after 400 meters of progress. Oh and the saves don’t really exist. Good luck and try not to murder your friends!
This game is available on PC/Steam
Bread and Fred
You and your bestie (or loving partner who you love very much, don’t forget that) play as two penguins tied together with a rope. So obviously you understand where this is going based of of that alone, right? Bread and Fred is one of the cutest games you’ll ever scream at.
Your whole goal is to climb a snowy mountain by swinging, jumping, and perfectly timing your way to the top. Sounds wholesome… until one of you mistimes a jump and drags the other to their doom.
It’s one of those games where you’ll fall from way too high up, gasp dramatically, then burst into laughter… or pure rage. But when you do finally land that impossible jump together? Chef’s kiss. The teamwork (and forgiveness) this game requires is unreal.
So pick your partner wisely and just remember: the rope binds you… but so does the trauma of falling from 400 meters up and losing half an hour of progress just like that.
If it makes you feel better though, the game is so cute looking and there’s a couple of flag checkpoints that you can spawn to if you’re lucky enough to get to one.
This game is available on PC/Steam, Playstation 5, Xbox Series, and Nintendo Switch
Pico Park
While pico park can definitely grind your gears a little bit, I do want to say that this game is more cute than rage-inducing and might be a better pick than say… chained together? If that name made you wince, then I promise you, this one isn’t as painful. Play as cute colored pixel cats as you jump, run and push your way to beating the levels. You can even play with up to 7 other friends, which if you have that many games friends… I’m absolutely jealous of you, but also good luck managing that!
Some levels will be an absolute cake-walk, others will remind you of other games you likely played as a kid, and some are timed and you’re against the clock, dead as soon as the timer hits zero. There’s lots of variety so you’ll never get bored!
There is even a sequel! Pico Park 2 available to play, and it’s just as fun if not more than the first one! My partner and I have already played it and we had a blast. I had to say though, I was a little too excited to be able to pick the color of my cat this time. Thanks, PIco Park dev team!
This game is available to play on PC/Steam, Xbox series/one, and Nintendo Switch
CupHead
This game is amazing to look at, but infuriating to play. You and one other unfortunate soul play as cup head and mug man, two brothers who just can’t seem to stay out of trouble and have finally played with the devil.
Literally. Like they went to a casino and the devil himself was there, and they SHOULD have never walked in at all.
Now you have to jump, parry and fight your way through fast paced, chaos incarnate, charged levels. And if that didn’t sound like a lot already, the wild bosses that each have at least 3 different phases you have to live through or you’re starting from the VERY beginning!
And this game is hard even on normal mode (at least it was to us, but we’re not that great at these kinds of games anyway so ITS FINE… I think). If that doesn’t tell you how difficult and rage-inducing this game is, then try it for yourself so you’ll know what I mean! And definitely bring a friend or your partner so you guys can scream and rage together. Trust us, its more fun that way!
This game is available on PC/Steam, Playstation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch
Overcooked 1 & 2
Overcooked is a game where you and 3 other friends play as cooks who have to work together to run a restaurant in wild, funky levels across the world. One moment you’re in a factory in which your ingredients get tossed from one side to the other, the next you’re in the sky with moving platforms that can easily send you plummeting off the map. And in that time it takes you to respawn, your hamburger starts burning and your kitchen ends up on fire.
This game is an absolute dumpster fire, but it’s one of the most fun ones you can ever willingly pick up. I’ve personally found the first overcooked to be more difficult and less forgiving than the second, but I recommend playing both! Even better is there’s plenty of dlc to get your hands on for even more crazy cooking fun.
This game is available on PC/Steam, Playstation, Xbox One (overcooked 1 only) and Nintendo Switch
Biped
I feel like this one deserves an honorable mention because my boyfriend almost begged me to play it for a while… and then when we did, he was the one who got tired of it faster. And this man could game all day if he really wanted to!
Grab your best buddy (or that special someone) and get ready to control two adorable robots who can barely walk straight. Yes, you guys are essentially walking babies and it takes some getting used to for sure. In Biped, you navigate colorful, physics-based puzzles and challenging platforming levels that demand teamwork and steady coordination.
Work together to explore beautiful alien landscapes, solve puzzles, and avoid falling off cliffs…easier said than done with those wobbly baby robot legs!
It sounds like a chill adventure… until one clumsy step pulls you both into disaster. Expect plenty of falls, surprised gasps, and some good-natured screeches. But when you finally pull off those tricky moves together? Satisfying. This game really puts your communication and patience to the test, but passing a level or a part you got stuck on is so rewarding!
So pick your partner carefully, because these newborn robots in a puzzle platformer world is a recipe for chaos, but they also make for one unforgettable and hilariously rage-worthy co-op experience.
Biped is available on PC/Steam, Playstation, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch
Rage-inducing games are great and all, but if you’re thinking of having a bit more fun minus the keyboard smashing or controller yeeting, check out this post of co-op games that are just STRAIGHT fun for guaranteed laughter!
